Honey from bees
Actually, it is quite easy to start a honey producing business once you know how the producing of honey works. It could actually be a monopoly business as honey is costly and also most people are afraid to deal with the bees (madhu makhis). The bees (also called honeybees) don't really harm us once you understand their nature by a little bit of training. Some institutes are offering 7 days beekeeping training and here is a free training online about the products used in the beekeeping.

As you know honey (shahad) is obtained from bees. There are many types of bees. The honey is obtained from a specific type of bee called honey bee. You might have already seen the nest of honey bees somewhere sometime in your life in some tree or at some corner of your home. The bees make the nest and in the process, honey is formed by them (this takes several months) and we use that honey for several purposes in our day to day life. That is just the natural way honey is made by the bees but if you cannot reach to the bees nest then you cannot collect the honey.

That is why artificial methods are used to attract honey bees in a beehive. A beehive is nothing but a man-made enclosed wooden structure of definite size to attract bees. You can see such wooden beehives in this youtube video. Initially, a small piece of a nest of bees with honey (taken from some original honey bee nest) is placed in the box to attract bees. Though the beehive (or bee box) is enclosed from all four sides there is a hole in it for the bees to come in and go out of the beehive.

Actually, you don't need to worry about finding the beehive and the bees to produce honey. There are certain producers of beehives. You can directly buy beehives (bee boxes) from them as many as you want and you will also find some existing bees attached (inhabiting or living) to a small nest inside each of the beehives. The producers attract bees by using honey itself which is the favorite food of bees. There is only a small cost involved in buying the beehive and one beehive can produce 50 kg of honey in a year. But this business is seasonal.

The only thing you have to do is to place your beehives at your farmland in a particular month (as instructed by the producer) where more bees can be attracted in the existing beehives you bought to produce honey. There is only a particular season when new bees are attracted. The boxes should be placed in an environment where the attraction of more bees is possible.

The honey you are looking to derive from the bees is actually formed when bees collect nectar from their favorite flowers and store it in their stomach. The XYZ bees (supposed to be attracted) which are outside the box can move up to 2 km to look for flowers in plants where they can find the nectar. These bees which fly from flower to flower in search for nectar are the female worker bees called forager.

The forager bees collect the nectar in their stomach and come back to the beehive and enter the beehive through the hole in it. These forager bees are greeted by the bees already existing in the box and they together produce heat by flapping their wings to cause the evaporation of water from the nectar to produce the original honey (there is a science behind it as mentioned on this website). Once the honey is formed you can collect it from the box by carefully following the required procedure as mentioned in the youtube video linked above in the 3rd paragraph in this article. There are certain specific sheets used inside the box to collect the honey.

Honey is a great food source for bees. It is high in sugar and gives them the energy to survive in winter. That is the reason the bees carry out this process in order to survive as honey is their food. The best thing about this business is that it can be done on a large scale by buying more and more bee boxes. The investment is not more than INR 5000 per box.

Even if you cannot deal with the bees yourself you can hire a specialist to do it for you. There is hardly any investment in this business and the profit margin is good. People are making 5 - 6 lac per year from just 50 boxes. You can buy more boxes to increase your profit. But of course, you need to have a land of your own or perform this action in a jungle if you don't have any land of your own. But certainly, it is easy to do and not difficult at all if you have a passion for it.

If you are curious to know how much time it takes to produce honey from one beehive you can visit this link.

This business is already practiced in the jungles of many states of India such as Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharastra, MP, Haryana, UP, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Kerela, AP etc.
