Is Ketu Malefic and can it bring losses? (Vedic Astrology)

Rahu and Ketu are the North Nodes of the Moon. Ketu is headless while Rahu has a head and face but no body and so no stomach. That is the reason Rahu keeps eating and never gets satisfied as there is no stomach that can be filled.

Now, what does it mean Ketu is headless? It means Ketu doesn't think as it doesn't have a brain as there is no head. That is the reason Ketu is considered exalted in the sign of Pisces or the 12th house as the sign of Pisces is also a sign where there are no thoughts and it is thoughtless awareness (witnessing). When you meditate you go into thoughtless awareness which is what Ketu or the sign of Pisces is. That is also the reason the sign of Pisces or Ketu is all about meditation and attaining moksha (liberation).

Ketu in the 12th house is actually very good for meditation. Virgo is actually the sign where you think a lot when Moon is placed in it and this may also result in a disease like diabetes which is caused due to excessive thinking. Virgo is a practical sign and so the mind (Moon) starts working here and the working of the mind is to think.

Just like Ketu is the significator of the sign of Pisces or the 12th house similarly Rahu is the significator of the 6th house or the sign of Virgo. You might have heard about the quote "work while you work and play while you play and that is the way to be happy and gay". This is what you follow when Rahu is placed in the 6th house and Ketu is placed in the 12th house or if Rahu is placed in the sign of Virgo and Ketu is placed in the sign of Pisces and this is the best placement for Rahu and Ketu as both are exalted here.

On the other hand, if Rahu is placed in the sign of Pisces then usually it is not considered good as then the native is lost in his own world and he is not much concerned about the practical world around him/her. Many people who are cut off from the real world, such as old and diseased people who have lost their inner senses and leading an isolated life (in ashrams) are usually seen having Rahu in Pisces as Pisces is a sign of exclusion and isolation. But it is not always so that only people who have lost their inner senses may have Rahu in the sign of Pisces.

If Rahu is placed in the sign of Pisces and if Jupiter, lord of Pisces, is under the influence of Gulika and Mandi or if Jupiter is in Mrityu Bhaga then here Jupiter is damaged and in that case, mentally retarded people or people who have lost their inner senses are seen. My son has his Rahu placed in the sign of Pisces and he is always lost in his own world. He is not social at all and hardly has friends but he is so good at arts, drawing, and painting that he is making a living out of it. So Rahu in Pisces can be good or bad both depending on whether Jupiter is well placed or not or if Jupiter is under the influence of malefic planets or malefic Upgrahas. People who forget their goods or belongings whenever they travel often have some planet placed in the sign of Pisces as they are so lost in their own world that they don't realize if they were actually carrying some belonging with them or if some pickpocketer deceived them. When sometimes some planet is transiting the sign of Pisces then also it happens and you lose things in travel during that time.

Now coming back to Ketu, whichever house Ketu is placed in your chart you become headless there as Ketu is headless and so you do things without thinking in that house. For example, if Ketu and Mars are placed in the 6th house in the sign of Virgo then you may beat someone without any reason as Ketu doesn't know what he is doing (as Ketu is headless) and Mars is aggression and 6th house is the house of disputes and fights. And that is the reason Ketu is not considered good in the 6th house. But people involved in combat sports may have this combination such as boxers as they need to hit without thinking. If Moon is aspected by Ketu and Mars then the native may even be a psychopath and such people are usually dangerous to the society as they can even involve themselves in mass killing.

Also, people having Ketu in the 6th house don't want to do a job as 6th house is the house of working under someone and 12th house is the house of working in one's own comfort zone. When Ketu is placed in the 6th house then Rahu will be found in the 12th house and so the native gets obsessed about working in his own comfort zone. Often people lose their job during the dasha of Ketu if Ketu is placed in the 6th house or even if in transit Ketu is either passing through the 6th house or aspecting the 6th house or even conjuncting the lord of the 6th house. That is the reason Ketu is considered debilitated in the 6th house or the sign of Virgo as Virgo is a sign of service while Ketu is a spiritual planet who doesn't want to work.

Also, when Rahu is placed in the 12th house or the sign of Pisces it is considered debilitated as 12th house is the house of losses or expenses and Rahu usually brings losses or expenditures in that house unless 12th house comes under Pushkarabhaga or Pushkaramsa. The problem is when Rahu is placed in the 12th house or the sign of Pisces the native is not much sure what he is doing in his job, business or even in the stock markets. The sign of Pisces takes away his discretion if Jupiter is under the bad influence or afflicted and so he takes a decision blindly without thinking as Pisces is a sign of doing things blindly (just like Ketu) on just the leap of faith without worrying about the consequences. People often do trading in the stock markets blindly and that is what the sign of Pisces makes you do when Rahu is placed in it. So you need to be careful whenever some planet is transiting the sign of Pisces or any of your planets is placed in the sign of Pisces in your birth chart.

There is also a lot of risks involved in losing the money if Ketu is placed in the 5th house if you are into stock trading as Ketu doesn't think while trading and takes decision blindly as the 5th house is the house of speculative business such as gambling and stock markets. You should not actually trade when Ketu is placed in the 5th house but you should take advice from experts before taking any risk on your own.

When Rahu is placed in the 11th house then you get obsessed (as Rahu is an obsession) about making money as 11th house is the house of liquid gains and you get so obsessed about making money that your Ketu in the 5th house does blind speculation in the 5th house of speculative business and you lose money because of the blindness due to the Ketu's effect in the 5th house.

On the other hand, if Ketu is placed in the 11th house then you don't care much about making money but you know that the money will automatically come when you will do good in the 5th house whether it is speculative business or stock trading or something else and so you do all these things with your eyes open and using your head as Rahu is not headless like Ketu and Rahu will be in 5th house when Ketu is in 11th house. So, Rahu is sometimes better in 5th house than the 11th house but 11th house is Rahu's own house and it does very well in its own house especially if the native is not involved in speculative business.

But people with Rahu in the 11th house are extremely good at dealing with the masses or the public and they will be very good at customer care while the opposite is the case with people having Ketu in the 11th house.

When Ketu is placed in the 7th house then you become headless in relationships and so your mind doesn't work whom you should get married to and whom not. As a result, you may reject a lot of boys or girls before marrying someone finally and sometimes marriage itself becomes difficult when Ketu is placed in the 7th house. Salman Khan, the great Indian film actor, is a good example of that as he has his Ketu placed in the 7th house in the sign of Libra.

Also, when Ketu is placed in the 7th house you become spiritual in the relationship which is sometimes good if you want to practice chastity even after marriage or you may not even want to get married as you want to practice chastity. Also, Ketu represents our soul and so sometimes you look for your soulmate in order to get married and that is also one of the reasons in the delay of marriage as you don't get married unless you find your soulmate. So, Ketu is quite malefic or bad when placed in the 7th house. Also, often people are not good at making relationships with other people when Ketu is placed in the 7th house as the 7th house is the house of relationships and partnerships.

Ketu, in the 1st house, on the other hand, makes the person very down to earth. He is down to earth because he is obsessed with interacting with other people (due to Rahu in 7th house) and wants to make relationships with other people as he needs respect from them and you cannot win someone's heart unless you are down to earth or humble. But if Saturn is aspecting Ketu in the 1st house then he becomes too humble which is sometimes not good as then he becomes the victim of aggressive people and such a person then cannot even raise his voice against evil. In the first house, the personality of the native becomes also like a saint (Fakeer) as Ketu is Fakeer. A fakeer is one who is isolated from Maya (materialistic things of life).
